Introduction

During the last decade, there has been a welcome trend of Indian veterinary academicians writing books. The most popular titles in veterinary books pertain to veterinary medicine, surgery, animal reproduction.  But there was a gap of textbooks on basic subjects such as veterinary anatomy and veterinary physiology. The books available on these subjects by foreign authors are difficult to grasp since those have been written keeping the in-vogue syllabus. Veterinary physiology although a difficult subject to grasp but is extremely important to become a good veterinary clinician. Dr. S. S. Kulkarni, Ex-Professor and Head, Department of Physiology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Udgir, District Latur, Maharashtra has recently released a textbook titled, Understanding Veterinary Physiology, useful for both students and veterinary practitioners. In the author’s viewpoint, ‘Physiology is the language of medicine and health, therefore, should be taught and learned to its required depth but avoiding unnecessary description.

The textbook follows the Veterinary Council of India syllabus so that it will be useful in the preparation of various examinations. The author has strived to provide conceptual clarifications, explained complicated pathways in easy-to-understand language. The students and clinicians would find the book interesting.
